Mrs. Castillo has been creating art for over 20 years. She received her undergraduate degree in Art Education from Florida International University, and also received a Master's degree in Art Education from FIU as well. She worked as a graphic designer at the university for five years before becoming an art teacher in 2002.
Although Mrs. Castillo likes to create art using all kinds of media, most of her new works are pen and ink with watercolor.
Mrs. Castillo believes every student can learn valuable life lessons through the creation of art. Problem-solving, independent thinking, and learning from mistakes are all important skills we learn in art, even if our artwork may not be what some consider "perfect" or "beautiful." Students learn not just to see, but to observe everything around them, knowing that everything is art.
Mrs. Castillo's motto in class is always: "It's okay not to know. It's not okay not to TRY!"
